Building Brabazon, Bristol

A new future for Filton airfield

Our vision is to create a major new neighbourhood on the former Filton Airfield site, the birthplace of the world’s iconic and supersonic jet Concorde.

Brabazon, Bristol, will be a new urban development with a garden suburb feel - a place where people will aspire to live, work and visit.

This 354-acre brownfield development will include:

  • 2,675 homes
  • 62 acres of employment space
  • a mixed use town centre
  • three new schools, doctors’ and dentists’ surgeries
  • recreational spaces, sport and leisure facilities
  • affordable housing to buy and rent
  • a community centre, retirement/care provision and student housing
  • a new railway station and a MetroBus route.

We will respect, celebrate and incorporate the heritage of Filton Airfield, home to the new Aerospace Museum.

The Spitfire hangar will be restored and the three historic Brabazon hangars developed for cultural and recreational use. The 115 foot high hangars cover an area of 400,000 square feet - large enough to house the O2 arena inside!

Vital to our overall vision for the site is ensuring sustainability is incorporated within the development.

Landscape and public spaces will feature fully integrated systems to manage energy, water, and waste, harnessing the latest environmental technologies.

Innovative water management within the landscape will include rainwater harvesting, sustainable drainage systems and wetland habitat.

Tree belts will migrate the impact of wild and weather and promote connectivity for wildlife.

Brabazon, Bristol, will have excellent travel links to the city, the surrounding area and the rest of the country.

We will invest more than £90 million in new transport infrastructure including:

  • a new MetroBus - forecast to carry 20,000 passengers per day in first year
  • a new railway station - forecasts suggest 218,000 trips per annum by 2032
  • integrated cycle routes connecting to neighbouring and existing networks.

It means Brabazon will be:

  • A short walk to the regional shopping centre
  • a few minutes drive to the M4 and M5 motorways
  • 10 minutes by train to Bristol city centre and Bristol Temple Meads station
  • 10 minutes drive from Bristol Parkway station
  • 40 minutes drive from Bristol airport
  • 1 hour and 10 minutes by train to London Paddington station.
