Much-loved independent bakery Mokoko has announced that its first store in North Bristol will be at The Hangar, a new local social hub in the historic Hangar 16U at Brabazon.
Built in 1915, the historic Hangar 16U was a hive of activity, assembling and maintaining aircraft in the former Filton Airfield’s aviation heyday. It is now being lovingly restored as a vibrant community hub known as ‘The Hangar’.
Setting up full-time residency in The Hangar's light-filled, open-plan space, Mokoko will soon be serving its delicious freshly baked viennoiserie along with sourdough bread, handmade sandwiches and indulgent cakes beneath the beautiful Belfast trusses of this historic building.
The bakery is set to become a vibrant hub for the community and visitors alike, and the go-to spot for incredible food, drink, and culture right in the heart of Brabazon. It will spill out onto a terrace overlooking Brabazon Park on the western side of The Hangar, making it the perfect place for catching up with friends over coffee or enjoying a family lunch. It is expected to open around the New Year.
Mokoko has already been a hit with residents and visitors alike, with its pop-up serving hungry visitors to ‘The Birds’ the Gromit sculpture being hosted at Brabazon as part of Gromit Unleashed 3.
As well as Mokoko, ‘The Hangar’ will also feature a range of other spaces to make it a new social hub for the whole community.

Mokoko is the second retail partner announced at Brabazon, after YTL Developments recently confirmed that Waitrose will open its first full-line flagship supermarket in seven years at the new town for North Bristol in 2027.
Sarah Ballinger, Managing Director of Mokoko Bakery, said:
“We’re incredibly excited to be part of what’s happening at Brabazon. It is a bold new neighbourhood, centered around people and community, which is the perfect fit for us at Mokoko.
“Our bakeries are built for connection, a place where people meet up to enjoy time together, whether it's enjoying a freshly baked pastry and coffee with friends, or simply watching our bakers at work, surrounded by the irresistible aroma of Viennoiserie and Sourdough.
“The Hangar at Brabazon feels like the ideal place to bring our crafted products, whilst creating cherished community moments. We can't wait to share our handcrafted baking with the community at Brabazon and be part of this special journey”.
Sarah McBride, Partnerships Director at YTL, said: “Our team has long admired everything that Mokoko stands for: A Bristol independent that’s proud to be different, serving quality, local food at the heart of the community. That’s what The Hangar at Brabazon is all about, so we can’t wait to welcome them to this beautiful historic building in just a few short months.
